Wow, I’d never heard or seen of this before. Located in the middle of the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan, Darvaza (the burning gates) is a large pit/crater/hole in the ground where an oil drilling rig fell into an underground cavern, opening an escape for a natural gas pocket below. They lit the pit, to keep the natural gas from killing everything around there, and it has been burning ever since 1971.
Personally, I’d throw a grill over the whole thing and set the world record for largest hamburger ever cooked. Joey Chestnut or Kobayashi would then immeadiately set a new world record when I finished.
