Pecha Kucha

pecha kucha

Thursday night, 11/15/2007 , at the invitation of my friend Dan Magestro, I went to an event at Junctionview Studio called Pecha Kucha (Japanese phrase meaning “the sound of casual chatter.”). If you wanna learn the origins go here, but basically it has become a presentation format/community building event, ususally based in and around the arts community. Presenters at Pecha Kucha events are each responsible for putting together 20 PowerPoint slides which they then have 20 seconds each to talk about. What results is a very creative and quick paced introduction to a handful of (hopefully) interesting people and their ideas. That was the case here in Columbus. This was Vol. 4 of the Columbus event, and I would guess about 60 or 70 people were at the event.

I left the event really inspired. It was nice to see people dealing with their everyday lives in creative ways, and people inspired to improve themselves, their families, and the world they live in. Or just being funny. Good mojo all around. You can see some examples on YouTube from people who have uploaded their presentations.

My friend Dan presented about Farmers markets, and how they bring energy and community to a city. The PowerPoint maestro came through, and had a great presentation.

Don’t miss out. Look this up in your city, if it hasn’t started, get it moving yourself. The next one in Columbus is February 21st at Junctionview Studio. Do it.
